Dojo Reigi – Etiquette
Reigisaho is the Japanese word for etiquette, manner, or conduct. In the dojo, it represents respect, discipline, and awareness. The following guidelines are expected of all students:
- Arrive on time. The dojo will be open 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
- Before entering the dojo, no gum or food is permitted. Remove outer clothing, take off your shoes, and place them neatly in order. If you notice shoes out of place, kindly arrange them.
- Always bow when entering or exiting the dojo, facing inward, as a sign of respect.
- If a senior student is standing behind you at the entrance, allow them to enter first.
- Keep your dojo Gi (uniform) clean and tidy at all times. If your uniform becomes undone, turn away from the front, kneel, and fix it properly.
- Keep your fingernails and toenails short to help prevent injuries.
- During training, listen carefully and remain attentive to all instructions given.
- Maintain proper posture, no hands on hips, arms crossed, or leaning against walls. Always remain in a ready position.
- Be polite and kind to one another. The dojo is a place of respect and growth.
- If you are injured, report it to Sensei before class begins.
- If you have a question during class, please raise your hand.
- Provoking violence in the dojo or in the community will result in immediate expulsion.
